Photographing a wedding..

Mysteriously.. Posted by Hello

It has been almost a year since I delivered my last wedding-photo-"set". This time it was, I guess as special as it can get while this time my sister got married!.. and that (also) means that failure is no option. So equiped with two large photobags with 35mm, medium-format AND digital photographic equipment I went to battle.
At the first location, Castle Poelgeest in Oegstgeest it was allready kind of crowded with other wedding-couples. Luckily when we arrived they were almost finished so the first part of the reportage wouldn't be a big problem as they could be photographed "alone".
Instead of lunch I had to change my clothes (while I was also one of my sisters best-men). In between the official parts (City-Hall, church and reception) I was very luckily to have just enough time to cycle through the region to my former employer which has got a brilliant minilab which processes and scans the film.. So after a day of photographic efforts I only had to carry seven photodiscs and the accompanying 7 developed films instead of about 250 analog pix..

..so about 750 pictures were shot digital with my coolpix 990 which is currently (still) my favorite photographic tool while it also uses Nikon speedlights and is therefore very Flash-flexible. The main question, I guess some people would ask: Why not all digital.. e.g. with a Nikon D70(s) or a D100?
Quite "simple".. I would have bought a D100 hadn't it been not too "old". It's fresher brother the D70(s) lacks a metal-body and it currently used by too many nitwits..
Also,.. in the current edition, and I thought that was quite astonishing, in a analog vs digital-test the best camera (in comparison with my mostly used film: fuji superia400) was the Canon eos 1Ds MarkII! In the same test was also the D70 included. The results were not that brilliant.. or at least not that good for me to rush to the nearest photoshop to buy me a D70.

Hopefully Nikon will be releasing a D90 on short notice otherwise the Fujifilm S3pro will be an option.. but I guess I don't need it that badly anymore while I just decided to quit (for now) the wedding-business while it's too timeconsuming and it prevents me from getting married..

When I go through the material I shot and think of my sister and her freshly wed husband which are going to Crete in a couple of hours I feel kind of deserted with about 1000 wellshot pix.. but I have to keep reminding myself: Never again! Photographing is or has been one of most favorite things but the whole "picture" of being busy for a whole day and having to post-produce a couple of more days for just the honour or a (large) bottle of beer is less favorable..
